It was July 1935 that the first Penguin books were published by Sir Allen Lane in England. The publication of Penguin inexpensive paperback books revolutionized publishing in the 1930s. The books sold through Woolworths and other high street stores for about the cost of a pack of cigarettes back then, bringing high-quality paperback fiction and non-fiction to the mass market. Penguin’s success sparked a paperback revolution. #penguinbooks
